Lorenzo nacque ad Huesca in Aragona(Spagna) nell'anno 225 d.C. . Fu uno dei sette diacono della diocesi di Roma . Qui fu martirizzato nell'anno 258 in seguito alla persecuzione ordinata dall'Imperatore romano Valeriano.
La Chiesa Cattolica lo venera come Santo.
Ci sono poche informazioni sulla vita di Lorenzo, per quanto sia un santo molto venerato. Ancora giovane fu mandato a ternminare i suoi studi umanistici e teologici a Saragaozza(Spagna) , dove incontro quello che sarebbe stato il futuro Papa Sisto II .
Entrato nell'amicizia e nella stima di Sisto , questi lo portò con sè a Roma . Là, Sisto divenne prima Vescovo di Roma e poi successivamente Papa. Lorenzo intanto fu delegato a svolgere le attività caritatevoli della diocesi di Roma .
Nell'agosto del 258, l'imperatore Valeriano emanò un editto in cui si ordinava che tutti i vescovi, i presbiteri e i diaconi fossero catturati e messi a morte .
L'editto du eseguìto immediatamente a Roma e Papa Sisto II venne catturato insieme a 4 diaconi ed ucciso(6 agosto) . Il 10 agosto fu la volta di Lorenzo che fu catturato mentre celebrava l'Eucaristìa nelle catacombe di San Callisto. La notte del 10 Agosto fu ucciso dopo un tremendo martirio sul fuoco(la graticola) .
Secondo la leggenda , la tradizione popolare e le credenze, la notte del 10 Agosto (appunto festa di San Lorenzo) gli occhi di molti si rivolgono al cielo notturno per "catturare" una stella cadente . Le stelle cadenti o "Lacrime di San lorenzo" sono spiegate scientificamente come meteore appartenenti alla costellazione di Perseo (quindi dette Perseidi) di passaggio nell'orbita visiva terrestre.
Questa è la notte, da tempi lunghissimi, dedicata al martirio del Santo( sepolto poi nella Basilica di San Lorenzo fuori le Mura di Roma),e le stelle cadenti rappresentano le lacrime versate dal santo durante il supplizio. Lacrime che vagano sempre eternmamente nei cieli e scendono sulla Terra proprio nella notte (nel periodo) in cui lorenzo è stato ucciso. La leggenda vuole anche che , vedendo una stella acdente, la persona pensi al dolore di San Lorenzo ed un suo desiderio si avveri.
La pioggia di meteore/stelle cadenti comunque comincia prima, a fine Luglio per continuare fino ed oltre il 20 agosto. Quest'anno, 2010, il picco della pioggia di meteore sarà la notte del 12 Agosto
ed allora Buona fortuna e che un vostro desiderio possa avverarsi!!
Lawrence was born in Huesca, Aragon(Spain ) in teh year 225 AD. He was one of the seven deacons of Rome.
Here, he was martyred in the year 258 during the persecution ordered by the Roman Emperor Valeriano.
The Catholic Church venerates him as a saint. There is little information about his life, despite being a highly revered saint.
Still young, he was sent to Saragossa to complete the humanities and theology studies and there he met the future
Pope Sixtus II who for friendship and esteem took Lawrence to Rome with him.
In Rome, Lorenzo took the charity activities of the diocese of Rome, while Sixtus first was elected bishop of Rome
and short later Pope.
In August 258, the Emperor Valerian issued an edict ordering all bishops, presbyters and deacons were to be executed
The edict was immediately performed in Rome. Lorenzo was caught while celebrating the Eucharist service in the catacombs
of San Callisto.
While Pope Sixtus II was also killed him immediately with four deacons on August 6, on August 10 was the time of Lawrence, who was only 33 . He was martyred by fire, on a grill.
According to legend, tradition and popular beliefs, the night of August 10th ( San Lorenzo's Day ), the eyes of many address
to the night sky in the hope to grasp a falling star.
Shooting stars or "Tears of St. Lawrence are scientifically justified as the passage of the Perseids ,meteors from the Perseus which fall in Earth's orbit visual.
This has been for years the night recalling the Martyrdom of Lawrence (buried in the Basilica of San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura in Rome) and falling stars represent the tears shed during the saint's martyrdom.
Tears that wander forever in the heavens and come down on Earth only in the night in which Lorenzo died.
Again according to the legend, it is believed that when a person sees a falling star, think of the pain of St Lawrence
and then one of his wishes comes true
The meteor shower (called Perseids ) begins in anycase some time before , namely at the end of July to extend until
at least August 20.
To see the meteors fall with their silky white tail you should be in open space , in the night, with no much light around ,
The countryside is the best place.
This year , the Peak of the shower will be Aug.12 night

Selon la légende, la tradition populaire et les croyances populiares, la nuit du 10 août ( fête de St.Larent ), les yeux de beaucoup s'adressent au ciel de nuit dans l'espoir de saisir une étoile tombante.
Les étoiles filantes ou "Larmes de Saint-Laurent sont scientifiquement justifiées que le passage des météores dans la constellation des Perséides visuelles en orbite terrestre.
C'est la nuit, depuis de nombreuses années, dédiée à la martyre de Laurent (enterré dans le troisième siècle dans la Basilique de San Lorenzo Fuori le Mura à Rome) et les étoiles filantes représentent les larmes versées pendant le martyre du saint. Les larmes qui errent toujours dans les cieux et descendent sur la Terre dans la nui où Laurent fut tué .
Toujours selon la légende, on pense que quand une personne voit une étoile filante, elle pense à la douleur de St Laurent et son désir devient réalité.
La pluie de météores (appelées Perséides) commence en tout cas avant ,à la fin de Juillet , pour se prolonger jusqu'au 20 août.
Pour vérifier et voir les météores qui tombent avec leur queue blanc soyeux il faudrait être dans un endroit ouvert et où il n'y a pas tellement de lumière, ... dans la campagne.
Cette année 2010 , le pic de la pluie de météores devrait etre la nuit du 12 Aout.
